The series Of Sky and Earth is a play on the alchemical notion of 'as above, so below,' which I am applying to Jung's idea that our outer world is a reflection of our inner state. The paintings depict storms and deserts, and are also meant to reflect the beauty in Nature that we have neglected. They are nostalgic in that sense and also like paintings that belong in a time capsule for future generations to see what Nature used to look like. But, then, I always include 'The Unknown Woman" in all my work even when she is not actually represented. The inspiration came to include her and at the same time explore, perhaps, the darker side of our inner state, especially with the political, social issues activated at this time. The irony is that the paintings are meant to be ugly, but there is still beauty in the paint. . . like life.
